We thought we would pose a few questions to John Charles at The Therapy Rooms to find out how he came to be an EMMETT Technique Practitioner.
How did you become an EMMETT Technique Practitioner?
A very good friend of mine, who is a holistic therapist, developed a frozen shoulder a few weeks before flying out to New Zealand. She did her research on complementary therapies and drew her own conclusion that EMMETT Technique would provide the ‘fix’ needed. She found an EMMETT Technique Practitioner and teacher who lived in Carmarthenshire. She was astounded that after a few sessions the shoulder had greater movement. My friend then invited the EMMETT Teacher down to Pembrokeshire to hold a short course called EMM-Tech, or Easy Muscle Management Technique, and I was invited along. I too was amazed at the changes people were experiencing on the course which resulted in greater body movement after each move taught to us.
I went on to complete the full practitioner course and qualified in January 2018. I am registered with the Healer Foundation and the British Complementary Medicine Association.
What do you enjoy about EMMETT Technique?
Firstly, let me explain what EMMETT Technique is. EMMETT Technique is a unique form of body therapy devised by an Australian man called Ross Emmett. This non-invasive therapy uses light touch to points along the muscles. The muscle will eventually release any emotional attachments or memory it may have held and will ‘reset’ itself back to original state.
What I enjoy when working with the therapy is to see the changes that have been made. Sometimes this can be immediate, but in general the results could take place 2 days after treatment.
Also, EMMETT Technique can be used as a standalone therapy or it can be used with any other complementary therapy.
Who comes to see you for EMMETT Technique?
Age has no barrier with EMMETT Technique. It can be enjoyed from the very young, right through to the elder generation.
It can be worked on sports people, office workers, manual workers, farmers, pregnant women, babies and children, elderly, or anyone wanting general well-being treatment.
I would like to add, however, EMMETT Technique does not work on skeletal problems only muscular. However, if a person has joint or spinal problems then EMMETT Technique can relax the muscle on that area prior to any additional treatment that need to be done on the bone.
In general, EMMETT Technique may ease discomfort for the client by relaxing the muscle where pain is situated.
What happens during a typical session?
You may be asked some questions about your general health and the reason for your visit. Treatments can be done standing, sitting or lying down. It is advisable to wear loose comfortable clothing during the treatment, but there may be times when some garments may need to be removed or loosened. Treatment times may vary according to your condition, but are approximately 20 to 40 minutes.
My fees are £50 initial consultation then £33 for follow up treatments.
Children under 16 are charged £22 flat rate.
Give us your five top health and well-being tips?
Me time. Most important to make time for yourself during each day.
Do some thing new….a change is as good as a rest, as they say.
Light exercise to destress.
Drink plenty of water…to flush out toxins.
Get proper sleep.
What’s next for you?
In May 2018 I will be embarking on the Advanced Level in the human course of the EMMETT Technique.
I will also be embarking on the Horse Practitioner course. This course treats horses and their riders to ease strain on horses. This will benefit horses conditions in general or it can used as preparation for equine competitions or races.
I will be looking to teach EMM-Tech courses. This course teaches you the basic moves for self-care, also, it is a great introductory level for those interested in learning the full EMMETT Technique course.
I am also a Reiki Master and Teacher in Usui and Karuna Reiki. During the year I will be looking to teach courses on those modalities. I am also a Practitioner in Usui Reiki, Karuna Reiki and Angel Reiki.
